What am I thinking of? A fun, colourful quiz to engage your children in speaking, listening and thinking. Instructions are included with this animated power point. Children are asked questions without giving away the name of the object in the picture and they guess / or locate the answer on the grid. There are 3 sets of pictures which could be used as 3 different activities or as 1 depending on your children and their concentration levels. As children get used to the idea of the quiz, you can begin to engage them in asking the questions. A great treat too, for end of term or the beginning of a new term.

This is a fun game to play supporting your work on colours and speaking and listening. There is a slide for each of the colours and 10 pictures on each slide. Children name the pictures and can say a phrase or sentence for each one. Colours are red, yellow, green, blue, orange, brown, silver, black and white, pink and purple and multicolours. Press and the answers will fly in on command. You could extend this activity by asking the children to write a list for each of the colours and the answers can then be checked. Children could work in pairs or small groups or on their own. The picture cards can also be printed and cut out and then sorted into colours or matched to the original slides.

These cards show a character thinking e.g. the gingerbread man is thinking about a fox ( as in the story). Children think about and discuss each card and once clear about the meaning, they can begin to formulate a short phrase or sentence. These memory games are based on Kim’s game which generally uses objects. Each game has 5 colour pictures all with a topic theme: Farm Characters/people Transport Bugs Buildings Seaside Garden Stationary Circus Feelings Page 1 gives the teacher instructions on how to play the game. Then there is a worksheet to go with each topic. These are for the children to write their lists on and to cut and order the pictures from memory. There is a blank template that you can use for any other topic you are teaching. Extend the amount of pictures for more able /older children. This game links to maths /number/counting to 5 and literacy, speaking and listening and list writing as well as sequencing.

Children enjoy this task where they closely observe the picture which shows 20 things beginning with a P at Christmas time. Children can work in pairs or groups or as a whole class. There is a word grid where they can tick off the pictures they find. They could also match the colour pictures to the main one. These can be cut into cards or left as a board. The next sheet shows the 20 pictures with words underneath. The final sheet is for children to write the words underneath the pictures. Cut out and laminate the picture and word cards for matching games.
